Slaton Woman Dies In Car Accident

Drunk driving may be what caused an accident that took a Slaton woman's on Tuesday night. It happened around ten o'clock in Slaton off Highway 84. Slaton Police say a 15-year-old girl was trying to get on the access road when the driver of an SUV did not stop. The SUV slammed into the passenger side of the car. The impact killed the girl's mother, 35-year-old Lydia Mendez.

EMS took the 15-year-old to University Medical Center in Lubbock. The 55-year-old driver of the Explorer was airlifted to UMC, where he as since been released. He may be charged with drunk driving pending an investigation by the Slaton Police Department.
