Covenant offers free car safety seat inspections

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Covenant Health Systems will offer free infant and child car seat safety checks on Friday, October 9th from 1:00 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at Kohl's Department store at 3307 98th Street.

Certified inspectors will conduct the car seat checks and will provide education on the new car safety seat laws that recently went into effect.

Previously, Texas child passenger safety laws required children younger than five years of age and less than 36 inches in height to ride in an approved car seat. As of Sept. 1, a new law requires children under age 8 to ride in a booster seat, unless they are 4' 9" tall.

Additionally, Texas law states that during the operation of the vehicle, the child must be properly secured in the car seat or booster seat according to the instructions of the manufacturer of the safety seat system. A separate new law requires all passengers, regardless of age, must be buckled into the vehicle with a seat belt.
