LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A single engine plane made an emergency landing around 1:00 p.m. on County Road 5100 just two miles south west of Abernathy after running out of gas. 39-year-old pilot Nathan Jones says he was coming from Utah and going to Louisiana to visit friends.
Jones was supposed to make a pit-stop in Plainview to re-fuel but the fog caused him to circle making him to run out of gas. "When I saw the road I landed," said Jones.
Public Works Manager Mike Grimsley was the first on the scene to find Jones. "We got out on the county roads and just started driving up and down and he was sitting here when we drove up. Thank god that he was okay and upright and out and that he's okay," said Grimsley.
Only a small section of one of the wings was damaged when it hit a branch during the landing. FAA was called out to check the plane and gave the okay for Jones to take off again around 4:30 p.m.

When preparing for a possible emergency situation, it's best to think first about the basics of survival: fresh water, food, clean air and warmth.
