A Warning About a Popular Skin Care Cream Ingredient

Alpha Hydroxy acid is a natural fruit derivative that promises younger looking skin, but the FDA is advising that some of those wrinkle creams should carry a warning that Alpha Hydroxy Acid may actually age skin faster by making it more sensitive to the sun's harmful rays.

"It's the equivalent of staying out in the sun about 20% longer than if you hadn't been using," says Dr. Robert Stern, a Dermatologist.

But even though the FDA is proposing warning labels that Alpha Hydroxy Acid increases a sunburn risk, some dermatologists are downplaying the threat arguing that as long as you use sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher under everything you put on your skin, you should be fine.
