LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The local cotton crop is forecast to be smaller than originally expected.
Previously, it was estimated that the greater Lubbock area would produce just more than four million bales. Now, the latest forecast from the USDA says it will be more like 3.8 million bales. The forecast is down for the nation as a whole.
Here in Lubbock, the weather is to blame - there is not enough hot, dry days for the cotton to mature.
