LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Texas Tech football games at Jones' AT&T Stadium became a bigger deal on Thursday. Texas Tech announced the completion of one stadium expansion with more to come. This is the first expansion of stadium seating and seating capacity since 1960. That does not include the new press box, but it's the first expansion of what they call the "seating bowl" in almost 50-years. Six thousand new seats are available just in time for the Tech verses Texas A&M game on October 24th.
There are six new sections that are open for the first time which includes 6,000 new seats. Nearly half of the new seats are still for sale for the A&M game.
"We're excited about it. These are great seats, a great view, a great angle to watch a football game. I think I'll get about four tickets down here in the end zone so I'll be able to have this view myself. It's just a great view," says Tech Athletic Director Gerald Myers.
This is part of a $25-million dollar expansion that will eventually include a mirror image of the new press box on the east side of the stadium. As part of Thursday's announcement, Texas Tech also extended a promotion for discounted ticket prices, 50 tickets for $50 per ticket. That promotion goes on until the November 21st game against Oklahoma.
