BLUM, Texas (AP) - A West Texas woman faces manslaughter charges in the weekend shooting death of an Army soldier on leave from Iraq. The woman told authorities she thought the gun was a toy when she aimed it at 20-year-old Pvt. Cody Ryan Patteson and pulled the trigger.
Hill County Sheriff Jeffrey Lyons said 20-year-old Pvt. Cody Ryan Patterson suffered an apparent gunshot wound to his chest at a home in Blum, located about 40 miles north of Waco. He was pronounced dead early Saturday morning.
A Hill County jail spokesman says April Thompson, of Odessa, was charged with manslaughter Sunday after she was arrested in Glen Rose, located about 30 miles west of Blum.
