Defending Sooner Athletic Conference champion Oklahoma Baptist is the preseason conference favorite according to the conference coaches.
OBU picked up eight of 12 first-place votes in the 2009-10 SAC Preseason Coaches' Poll released Tuesday. The Lady Bison were 20-2 in the SAC last season and 32-5 en route to a NAIA Fab Four finish.
"We are appreciative of the conference coaches' respect for our program, however we still have a season to play," said OBU coach John McCullough. "There are a lot of good teams in our league and you have to be ready to play every night."
The Lady Bison were just one of four teams to receive first place votes. Oklahoma City, Southern Nazarene and Wayland Baptist had the highest respect of at least one SAC coach.
OBU had 118 poll points, followed by Oklahoma City with two first-place votes and 110 points, Southern Nazarene with a first-place vote and 96 points, Lubbock Christian with 90 points, Wayland Baptist with one first-place vote and 88 points, with Rogers State rounding out the upper half with 73 points.
Oklahoma Christian is ranked seventh with 57 points, followed by John Brown with 47, Mid-America Christian with 40, Science and Arts of Oklahoma with 34, Northwestern Oklahoma State with 26 and St.Gregory's with 13.
OBU and OCU were ranked first and second for the second season in a row. The Stars were 31-6 last year and reached the NAIA Fab Four after winning the conference tournament.
The Sooner Athletic Conference placed five schools - OBU, OCU, Lubbock Christian, Southern Nazarene and Wayland Baptist - in last year's NAIA 32-team championship field.
