One man is in custody following a high speed pursuit across Lubbock this afternoon.
The driver of a white Ford pickup was pursued by several units from the Lubbock Police Department and Texas DPS. The pursuit spanned much of South and Central Lubbock: as far south as 98th and U.S. 87, west to South Loop 289 and Quaker, and north to 34th and Flint. The suspect stopped his vehicle near 58th and Avenue U, and continued on foot. He was finally taken into custody near 58th and Avenue U.
The entire incident lasted approximately 30 minutes. A portion of the pursuit included the suspect traveling the wrong way on U.S. 87 and South Loop 289. The truck lost a portion of its load on South Quaker Avenue, and the driver was also observed tossing objects from the car.
According to police, the chase stemmed from an investigation involving methamphetamines.
