City Hopes New Traffic Light Will Yield Fewer Accidents

If you drive in East Lubbock be prepared for a change in the traffic lights at one busy intersection. The City of Lubbock installed a left hand turn signal at Parkway and MLK Boulevard.

Lubbock City Councilman T.J. Patterson was on hand to make the announcement. The City Traffic Department installed the new light to prevent accidents like one that happened in December of 2002. A woman driving East on Parkway made a left onto MLK and was hit by a police car going West on Parkway. A 15-year-old girl in the woman's car died in that accident.

The new signal will now provide a protected left for people turning onto MLK.
