Wolfforth resident in custody after international drug bust

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - An international drug bust has local ties. State and Federal officials say they arrested 81 people on Wednesday just in the State of Texas.

Nationwide it was 1,100 people. One of those arrested in Texas is from Wolfforth.

As of Thursday afternoon, DPS could not tell us the name, address or other details of the local arrest. Officials as high up as the U.S. Attorney General are speaking out about the issue.

Eric Holder, the U.S. Attorney General says, "We have seized more than 32 million dollars in United States currency, more than 2,700 pounds of methamphetamine, nearly 2 thousand kilograms of cocaine, approximately 16 thousand pounds of marijuana and 29 pounds of heroin during the 44 month project."

Multiple agencies participated in "Project Coronado," an investigation targeting the La Familia Michoacana drug cartel.

Federal officials describe the La Familia cartel as the most violent drug trafficking cartel based in Southwestern New Mexico.
