LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Health care reform may be shaky, but medical school enrollment is up for the 11th year in a row. The Association of American Medical Colleges says first-year enrollment jumped again 2% this year over last year.
The numbers are even bigger here at home, where the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center recently celebrated its largest enrollment in the institution's history. The numbers went up more than 11% this year compared to last fall. When the medical school opened in 1969, the ratio here was one doctor for every 1,300 people. Today, the odds are much better for patient care, one doctor for every 750 people.
