LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Something else that has improved because of the Texas Tech Health Science Center School of Medicine is the opportunity for patients in West Texas to be involved in clinical trials. There are currently more than 25 clinical trials here tied to cancer studies nationwide. The biggest problem is, most patients don't know they can join cancer studies in Lubbock, without driving to a high profile center like M.D. Anderson.
"Of the 20 percent of cancer patients who are really eligible for clinical trials we only have between two and five percent of the population that actually participate," Ann Purdom, R.N., and Manager at the Southwest Cancer Treatment and Research Center.
