On January 24th, Lubbock Police Officers Chris Hennsley and Brad McMahon responded to a call of a man dressed in black and carrying a gun walking in the Arnett Benson area. The man, now identified as 19-year-old Michael De La Rosa, refused to drop his weapon. He then pointed the gun at police and that is the moment Hennsley and McMahon opened fire. De La Rosa died at the scene. It was later discovered that the gun he was carrying was a fake.
On Tuesday, the grand jury determined this was "clearly a justified discharge of firearms on the part of officers."
