LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Trey Hayes, head high school swimming coach for the Lubbock Independent School District, was recently selected as a National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) state coach of the year in the area of boys swimming.  Hayes was nominated for the honor by the University Interscholastic League and the Texas Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association.

By virtue of his selection as the NFHS state coach of the year, Hayes was automatically nominated for NFHS sectional coach of the year, and was ultimately the sole representative from Texas to be considered as NFHS National Coach of the Year for the boys swimming program.

Hayes is beginning his eighth year as head swimming coach for both boys and girls in Lubbock ISD, and his twelfth year with the district.  He was named the Girls and Boys District Coach of the Year for District 2-5A in 2008-2009.

When Hayes was a student athlete at Coronado High School in 1991, he was a state qualifier and regional champion for the CHS swim team.
