Final Marsha Sharp Freeway main lanes segment set to open

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - By the end of the week, travelers on the Marsha Sharp Freeway will be able to drive on the last portion of the newly constructed eastbound Marsha Sharp Freeway main lanes.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is set to open the last major section of main lanes on Phase 3B of the freeway project.

The section that will be open is from the West Loop to Salem Avenue, including Chicago Avenue on -ramp. Now the east and westbound traffic will flow non=stop from Avenue L to West Loop.

TxDOT is anticipating that most major construction activity on Phase 3B will be completed by Thanksgiving, with the contractor continuing to work on other minor activities including installing signs and pouring side walks.

Construction on Phase 4 of the Marsha Sharp Freeway is scheduled to begin in spring 2010 and will build the freeway main lanes, frontage roads and I-27 interchange. This week's scheduled opening will take place weather permitting.
