PLAINVIEW, TX - No. 20 Lubbock Christian University had to rely on a pair of comeback rallies to defeat Wayland Baptist University 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 29-27) Tuesday night to close out the regular season at Hutcherson Center. With the completion of the match, the seeds are now set for the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament, which begins Friday at Rip Griffin Center on the LCU campus.
In the opening set, LCU fought back from an 18-14 deficit with a 5-1 run to tie the score at 19-19. Wayland Baptist had their chances in the third set but they just could not get the set-point when they needed the most. They led the set 23-21 and had set point at 24-23, but a kill by Odell tied the set at 24-24. They were also unable to clinch with set-point serve at 25-24 and 26-25, as Elissa Loynes and Bailey Jones each had kills to tie the match. An ace by Jordan Goings set up LCU with a 27-26 lead and match point, but Wayland Baptist tied the set with a kill by Jennifer Wyatt. Melissa Green eventually put the match away for LCU with a pair of kills for the 29-27 match clinching set win.
