City Prepares During Winter Blast

No rain is expected in the forecast, ice can still be found on Lubbock's streets. Monday morning, NewsChannel 11 photographers found ice lined along the curb of 82nd and University. A nearby sprinkler system had run over into the road creating a sheet of ice. It's a reminder to drivers to drive cautiously in the cold weather.

Also, the City of Lubbock asks that businesses not allow their sprinklers to spray water in the street.

Monday's drop in temperatures meant a rise in business for heating companies. NewsChannel 11 spoke with several local heating businesses who all said the cold weather means more customers. Heating experts say faulty heaters are the number one cause of fires in the U.S.

So, if you haven't had your system checked experts say now is a good time.
