Red Raiders open season against Coyotes

LUBBOCK, Texas – The 2009-2010 Red Raider basketball season begins Friday evening at 6 PM with Texas Tech playing three games in three days and hosting the Duel in the Desert sponsored by Basketball Travelers.

Texas Tech action gets underway on Friday evening at 6 PM with the Red Raiders taking on the Coyotes of South Dakota from Vermillion, South Dakota. This marks the first meeting with the team from the Great West Conference since 1976.

Oregon State of the Pac-10 Conference will play Texas A&M-Corpus Christi from the Southland Conference in the second game of the evening at the United Spirit Arena.

On Saturday at 6 PM, the Red Raiders will face the Islanders of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the first game. The teams last met in 1999. In the second game on Saturday, Oregon State and South Dakota will begin play thirty minutes after the Texas Tech and Texas A&M-CC game.

All four teams return to the court for their third and final game of the Duel in the Desert on Sunday afternoon.

In the opening game, South Dakota and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will start at 1 PM. The final game of the Basketball Travelers event features Texas Tech and Oregon State.

The Red Raiders and the Beavers will tip thirty minutes after the conclusion of the first game. This is Texas Tech's first game against Oregon State and the first of three Pac-10 teams the Red Raiders play this season at the United Spirit Arena. Texas Tech hosts Washington on December 3 and Stanford on December 22.

Mark Finkner will call the courtside action along with analyst Corky Oglesby on the Texas Tech Sports Network flagship radio station Double T 104.3.

None of the Duel in the Desert games will be televised.

The Red Raiders are back in action at the United Spirit Arena on Thursday, November 19 for their 7:00 PM tip-off against the Demons of Northwestern State.
