LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Lubbock Professional Police Association is doing something new to catch the public's attention on a growing problem.
Driving on the West Loop you can see their new billboard. It says 65 officers short and counting.
That's how many police officers Lubbock needs to reach the authorized strength of 422.
The LPPA says the shortage of police officers is a public safety issue and is hoping the ad will raise awareness on this problem.
Within the next few years, the LPPA says approximately 30 percent of Lubbock's officers will be eligible to retire. That would make the department more than 100 officers short.
