Special Report: When water-wasters become dangerous

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - Slip and fall season is coming. Wintry weather can create slippery roads, driveways, or sidewalks causing you to fall, and doctors say don't take it lightly.

If you can't walk without pain or if it's swollen and tender, you should have any injury checked out. "Hip injuries, especially in the elderly can complicate their medical condition and make them very sick and actually, people can die from severe hip injuries," says Dr. Joe Sasin at University Medical Center.

Wintry weather can strike without warning, creating slippery condition out of our control.

Folks can, however, take control of sprinkler systems, which can create hazardous conditions for those walking and driving. You could also be cited by the city.

"If we've been out there and had to talk to folks a couple of times and they're just being resistant, we have the ability to write citations." says Stuart Walker with the City of Lubbock.
