LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - A Lubbock resident is in custody for arranging to have the mother of his child killed in Wisconsin.

Seven weeks ago, Kimberly Smith was found murdered in her Oconomowoc, Wisconsin home.

As this investigation unfolds, authorities believe that this was a murder for hire and the man who allegedly did the hiring was arrested here in Lubbock on Wednesday night.

Authorities in Waukesha County, Wisconsin believe this was all a plot so that 41-year-old Darren Wold could have custody of his 4-year-old son.

They believe Wold schemed this plan with a long time friend and another man who was hired to be the hit man.

Lubbock Police have assisted Wisconsin authorities since October 1st, the day Smith was found murdered in her home. Waukesha County Sheriff's Office Investigators traveled to Lubbock about a month ago.

The two other men were arrested on Wednesday. One in Mexico and the other as he was trying to cross the border back into the states.

Court records indicate that Smith's hands were bound and she had been stabbed a number of times.

"We're still working through the investigation as far as contacts that have been made between the various parties and also any transmissions that have gone back and forth between them," says Chief Dave Beghun of the Oconomowoc Police Department.

Multiple agencies in Wisconsin, Texas and California have assisted in the case.

Wold is being held in the Lubbock County Jail on a $2 million bail and he is charged with "party to first degree intentional homicide."

The other two men are being held in a California jail on a $2 million bail.
