LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Lubbock suspect in a murder for hire plot maintains his innocence.
Forty-one-year-old Darren Wold remains in the Lubbock County Jail on a $2 million bond. He is accused of hiring a hitman to kill ex-girlfriend, Kimberly Smith, as part of a custody dispute over their 4-year-old son. Smith was found bound and stabbed to death 7 weeks ago in her Wisconsin home.
Police believe Wold conspired with Jack Johnson and Justin Welch to kill Smith. Both men are behind bars in California, and being held on $2 million bonds each.
Wold moved to Lubbock earlier this year. Now all three men face extradition back to Wisconsin.
