LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - If you watch the Texas Tech game against OU Saturday, you'll notice all the coaches on both teams will be wearing a gold ribbon on their visors.
O.U. Coach Stoops started that, wearing a gold ribbon as the symbol of childhood cancer. David, a child in Oklahoma, gave the gold ribbon to the coach, but later died from Neuroblastoma.
This weekend, Coach Leach and his staff will also wear the gold riibon in memory of children like David… and in honor of others like Nick Leslie, who are survivors of childhood cancer.
In fact, Nick was saved by lifesaving treatment that was actually developed by researchers at Texas Tech School of Medicine.
Coach Mike Leach says, "Rivals in sports, Texas Tech and OU, are on the same team when it comes to the fight against cancer. An example of this teamwork are the clinical trials developed by researchers at the Texas Tech Cancer Center."
This is just a sneak peak, Healthwise. You'll hear more about this teamwork in fighting cancer during half-time at the Tech-OU game tomorrow.
