Volunteers work to spread Christmas cheer to U.S. service men

Posted:

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -Lots of South Plains residents became Santa's little helpers Saturday. Cadets from Lubbock High School Junior Navy ROTC prepared Christmas boxes for soldiers serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

About 100 volunteers also went to Westminster Presbyterian Church Saturday to stuff stockings headed to the U.S. Air Force Base in Kunsan, Korea. "These service men, they're far away from home. They need something to remind them of what they're fighting for, and we appreciate them more than words can ever say," said Volunteer, Donna Smith.

The stockings include candy, toiletries, and Christmas cd's. Volunteers started working on the project this summer, and this weekend they will mail the finished product of 3,300 stockings they hope will bring a little Christmas cheer.
