On Thursday morning The Lubbock School Board took a stand against school vouchers. With a voucher system, state money used for public schools would be channeled away to private or charter schools.
That means the Lubbock Independent School District would lose money because it's losing students. School Board President, Mark Griffin says vouchers would have a dramatic impact on the district. "We are opposed to that because we think in this district and throughout the state their is sufficient choice for families to make decisions about where they want their children educated." said Griffin.
The board plans to voice its concerns to the Texas Association of School Boards.
