Former Governor Preston Smith is resting comfortably Thursday after being admitted to a Lubbock hospital earlier this week. Smith entered University Medical Center on Monday suffering from pneumonia.
A friend, Otice Green, says he's improving and hopes to be released by the weekend.
Smith turns 91 on March 8th. He still works as a special assistant to Tech Chancellor David R. Smith. The two men are not related.
Preston Smith, a Democrat, served two terms as the 38th Texas governor from 1969 until 1973. He also served in the Texas House of Representatives, the Texas Senate and as Texas lieutenant governor in 1962 under Governor John Connolly.
