LEVELLAND, Texas - The South Plains College Lady Texan basketball team improved their record to 6-1 with a 100-33 pounding of the Flying Queen junior varsity team tonight at the Texan Dome.
The Lady Texans scored 11 of the first 13 points in the game and never looked back, going to the locker room with a 54-14 lead.
Little changed in the second half, either, where SPC outscored the Flying Queens 46-19 en route to the 67 point victory.
The Lady Texans had four players score in double figures, led by Kelsey Canavan and Sajoyia Griffin. Canavan, a 6-01 post from El Paso, dominated the paint with 18 points on 8-of-16 shooting and pulled down 12 rebounds. Griffin also added 18, making 7-of-11 shots as well as dishing out four assists. Griffin had four steals as well.
Freshman Teysha Matthews made 5-of-10 from three point land on her way to scoring 17 points and ToiEasha Cooper scored 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field. Cooper added four steals as well.
For the game the Lady Texans made 39-of-89 (.438) shots and outrebounded WBU 60-32.
The Lady Texans return to action Saturday, December 5th when they face Temple College at 2 p.m. to begin a three day stretch playing Region 5 opponents. SPC will then travel from Temple to Hillsboro on Sunday, December 6th to play Hill College at 5 p.m. and will wrap the road trip up on Monday, December 7th with a 5:30 p.m. tip-off at McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas.
