LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - In case you haven't heard, NewsChannel 11 and Sports Director Pete Christy have launched a new safety effort.
B.U.S.T., or Buckle Up and Stop Texting, is this station's response to a deadly trend. It comes after the tragic death of Seagraves High School student Alex Brown. Sadly, she was texting behind the wheel and not wearing her seatbelt.
Pete Christy has been busy since last Friday asking area students, teachers and parents to take the B.U.S.T. pledge. So far, hundreds have signed this form and the excitement is building.
I am also taking Pete's challenge and encouraging everyone to take the B.U.S.T. pledge. You don't have to wait, click here to print this form from kcbd.com and send it to the station. In return, we'll send you a B.U.S.T. sticker for your car.
Consider this; although the response has been overwhelming in just a few days, B.U.S.T. is about much more than a clever slogan or safety campaign. It's about a commitment you make to yourself.
If we continue our dangerous driving habits and setting a bad example, signing this form is meaningless. So join me, and don't just sign your name on the form, truly commit to buckle up and stop texting every time you drive.
