LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - It's illegal to sell human body parts to the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center for research or instruction. However, a Dallas TV station discovered that one North Texas company may have found a loophole in the law.
WFAA found that Autopsy Associates of North Texas does not charge the HSC for tissue samples but rather it charges for the "removal" of tissue samples from dead bodies.
WFAA says according to public records Tech paid the company $3,000 in 2007 and 2008. The manager of that company defends the practice.
