LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The race is on to replace former Sheriff David Gutierrez on a permanent basis. Gutierrez resigned in mid-August to take a state job.
Deputy Don Carter formally announced his candidacy Monday evening at the Lubbock Club. "I think I'm the best person for the job and I certainly want to be able to serve the citizens of Lubbock County," he said. Carter is also the former Police Chief in Muleshoe.
Kelly Rowe will make his announcement Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. inside the Commissioner's Court in the Lubbock County Courthouse. Commissioners appointed Rowe as interim Sheriff but that appointment expires with the next general election.
Next on the list is Ronnie O'Neal. He's been a U.S. Marshall in Lubbock for many years. He'll declare his candidacy at the 50 Yard Line Steak House Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
