Court documents in murder for hire case unsealed

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - An update on a murder for hire plot involving a Lubbock resident.

Darren Wold, 41, was arrested last month in Lubbock, for allegedly conspiring with another man to kill Kimberly Smith, the mother of his child in Wisconsin. Thursday, the court documents in the case have been unsealed.

According to the documents, 39-year- old Smith's body was found by her boyfriend in the living room of her home in October. Her hands were bound and her throat had been cut by a knife from her own kitchen. Officers later discovered the murder weapon near Smith's home.

Police believe Wold conspired with Jack Johnson and Justin Welch to kill Smith. Investigators say DNA at the scene linked Welch to Smith's murder.

Wold has been taken back to Wisconsin where he faces charges of "party to homicide."
