Texas Tech University officially accepted its 33rd postseason invitation this afternoon and will face an undetermined team from the Big Ten in the 2010 Valero Alamo Bowl on Saturday, Jan 2, at 8 p.m. in the Alamo Dome in San Antonio.

Texas Tech was contacted by representatives from the Valero Alamo Bowl early Sunday afternoon and accepted the invitation.

Texas Tech is thrilled and excited to return to San Antonio to be part of a wonderful and tradition rich game such as the Valero Alamo Bowl. This is a credit to coach Leach, his staff and our talented student-athletes for what has been yet another outstanding season. We are glad for the opportunity to play in San Antonio because it gives our great fans all across the state of Texas the ability to be part of the game.

The Red Raiders will be making their 10th consecutive bowl appearance under head coach Mike Leach and will be returning to the Alamo City for the first time since 2001. Texas Tech is 0-2 all-time in the Valero Alamo Bowl with losses to Iowa in both 1996 and 2001. A bowl victory would give Texas Tech its sixth bowl win in the Leach era and an 11-21 all-time record in the postseason.

"I think the Alamo Bowl is one of the top bowl games in the country and the Red Raiders are happy to be part of this years game," said Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach. "We've been to 10-straight bowl games and that is something that our program and our fans are extremely proud of."
