Tech fans get discounts to Valero Alamo Bowl

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The Red Raider football team will ring in the new year in San Antonio, playing in the 2010 Valero Alamo Bowl.

For the first time, the Raiders will meet the Michigan State Spartans on the field January 2nd with kick off at 8:00 p.m.

If you go to texastech.com you can find a lot of information on the bowl game. There are details on airfare discounts, hotels and car rentals. There is also directions to the Alamo Dome and parking information that will make sure your 2010 Valero Alamo Bowl experience runs smoothly.

This is the third time Red Raider fans will travel to the Alamo Dome. The first two times, Texas Tech lost to the Iowa Hawkeyes in 1996 and in 2001.

It's the 16th consecutive season for the Raiders to be eligible for a bowl game, a Big 12 record. This is also the 19th time they have played in Texas for a bowl game.

"It's very exciting. Always a good thing to be going to a bowl and certainly staying in Texas is always fun," says Amy McBride, Red Raider Club Assistant Athletic Director.

With the game in San Antonio, fans are already planning a trip to the Alamo Dome.

"In state, we don't usually do ground transportation so what we've done for our fans is organize some hotels so our travel partner, National Travel Systems put together some blocks that are down there on the river walk," says McBride.

You can get discounts on these hotels, some within walking distance to the game. But those are going fast, and fans should book them tonight or tomorrow before the deals are gone.

To book a hotel, you can call the National Travel Systems toll free at 1-888-603-8747, or at 806-794-3135.

Tickets are also going fast. Dave Welsh, the Ticket Operations Associate Director says, "They are going through the roof right now, we are sold out of all our lower level and club areas, we do have some upper deck tickets left that are $55 a piece."

Welsh says there are less than 2,000 left and they will sell out fast.

"Good chance it might be this week, not sure exactly which day but it could be as early as Wednesday or could go till Friday."

To purchase tickets, you can call the Texas Tech Ticket office at 888-GO-BIG-12 or 806-742-TECH.

The Valero Alamo Bowl is also selling tickets and you can call their ticket office at 210-704-6666.

American Airlines is the official carrier for the Valero Alamo Bowl game, so for those planning on flying, you can get a 5 percent discount on their flights.

The promotional code to receive this discount is, 82D9AF. Or you can click here for more information.
