LUBBOCK, TX – The Texas Tech Lady Raiders concluded their seven-game home stand tonight with a 70-56 win over Lamar. Tech improves to 8-1 on the season having won the last seven games.
The game belonged to the Lady Raiders the first half as they opened the contest on a 19-6 run the first seven minutes. Their largest lead of the half was 22 points twice with the last coming at 34-12 with 5:48 to go as Kierra Mallard hit a jumper. The closest Lamar could get in the last five minutes was 15 at 38-23 when Jenna Plumley nailed a three-pointer with 1:04 left in the half.
Tech led 39-23 at the break. The Lady Raiders were fortunate to get off to a good start and have a16-point lead at the break as the Lady Cardinals came out stronger in the second half and outscored Tech 33-31 the final 20 minutes. Lamar's Ashley Crawford hit a layup and was fouled and connected on the free throw with 1:04 remaining to close the gap to nine at 65-56. That was the closest the Lady Cardinals would get as Tech scored them last five points of the game to clinch the 14-point victory.
Mallard recorded her second double-double of the season with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Jordan Murphree and Tilmila Martin both scored in double figures for Tech with 12 and 11 points, respectively. Ashlee Roberson had her fourth double-digit rebounding game with 11 boards.
Plumley led Lamar with 15 points. Tech shot 45.4 percent (25-55) from the field to Lamar's 36.1 percent (22-61). The Lady Raiders also outrebounded the Lady Cardinals 44-34.
Tech will have a 10-day break for finals before returning to action at UCLA on Fri., Dec. 18, at 9 p.m. CST.
