LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – It's not hard to imagine that bad allergies could affect your quality of life, but did you know a simple procedure could fix that, or at least greatly improve your tolerance. The procedure is called turbinate coblation, which basically means the patient gets a little wand slipped into the nose. The wand emits radio frequencies that shrink the problem are along the nasal wall, called turbinates. It's a simple, quick office procedure called turbinate coblation.
"You can dramatically change their quality of life because people who are congested and have pressure are really miserable," said Craig Schwimmer, M.D., an otolaryngologist.
Turbinate reduction used to require a general anesthesia and incisions, but with turbinate coblation, it's just a ten minute procedure and in most cases provide almost instant relief.
"It was just night and day, how much I could breathe through my nose as compared to before," said David Fisher, a patient.
David says his treatment was about $1,500, but of course, prices vary. So if you struggle with allergies and feel like you've tried every kind of medicine to no avail, you might want to ask your doctor about turbinate coblation to find out if it might be an option for you.
"Of all the procedures I currently do, this is the one, without a doubt, that has the most consistent and dramatic patient satisfaction," said Dr. Schwimmer.
