LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – A new gene test may help patients decide whether or not to treat their cancer with chemotherapy.
This genetic testing is called the Oncotype DX and the study in the Journal Lancet says researchers have found that women with low scores had little or no benefit to chemo, while chemotherapy worked very well for women with higher scores. Why would you want to know this? They say because figuring out which cancer cases would not be affected by chemo could save many women money and the harsh side effects of treatment.
