LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -A group of area Catholics ran a torch across the South Plains on Saturday. It left Our Lady of Guadeloupe Catholic Church in Lubbock around 8 a.m., and ends at Saint Margaret Mary in Lamesa.
The church has done this race for three years. It's a shorter version of a run from Mexico City to New York which celebrates the apparition of the Virgin Mary. Our Lady of Guadeloupe is an apparition of Mary revealed to Saint Juan Diego on his cloak in the 1500s. According to Catholic beliefs, the cloak still hangs in the church in Mexico and has become a symbol of Mexican Catholics.
