LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) -Just a few days after Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, local military organizations held a ceremony at the City of Lubbock Cemetery in honor of our fallen veterans.
As Cadet Daniel Hernandez laid a wreath over several veterans' graves he was filled with honor and remembrance of those who fought for our country. "For the cadets of the squadron this is a chance for them to learn about honor, duty, and sacrifice and to know that there have been so many people that have served our nation in various rolls and various branches of the military. We are trying to in steal in the cadets and the community at large a respect for the veterans and for what they've done. Without them we wouldn't be the free national that we are," said Kyle Vernon.
With the help of cadets like Hernandez, the Lubbock Civil Air Patrol and a few other organizations raised enough money for 1,000 wreaths. "We just went out to stores and asked people if they wanted to sponsor any money to purchase wreaths to put on veteran's graves," said Hernandez.
Saturday morning, volunteers laid the wreaths on the graves following a ceremony in honor of our veterans. For the cadets, participating in the event really touched their hearts. "All these people have died for our country and we are respecting them right now, and that is what is really big to me," said Hernandez.
The beautiful wreaths will lay on the graves in honor of our fallen veterans throughout the holiday season.
