TxDOT wants to swap highway responsibilities with City of Lubbock

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - TxDOT wants to de-certify a section of highway inside the city limits.  If it's approved, the city would then take over maintenance of two stretches of road.  And TxDOT would relieve the city of responsibility for one stretch of road.

Here are the proposed changes.  First TxDOT would give up responsibility of Avenue A from the Slaton Highway up to 4th Street.  It would no longer be a U.S. Highway business route.  TxDOT would also give up responsibility for 34th Street between Avenue A and Martin Luther King Blvd.  TxDOT would then take over responsibility for East 50th Street between Interstate 27 and Southeast Drive.

The idea comes before City Council on Wednesday.
