LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – When you put big crowds together, whether shopping or partying, especially during the holiday season when everybody's hugging, those types of public places become a Petri dish for germs like the flu virus. That description comes from a family medicine doctor, who adds the worst hiding place for flu germs is on door knobs and handles.
"They're microscopic. You can't see them. They'll stick on the doorknob and then the next person comes in, opening the door, taking whatever is left on the door knob, and then maybe scratching their eyes or their nose," said Dr. Ranit Mishori, a family practitioner.
Other problem spots, elevator buttons, your phone and your computer keyboard, and any equipment at the gym. So don't put the hand sanitizer away just because people aren't talking about the swine flu as much. Instead, those little sanitizers and wipes would make a great stocking stuffer.
