The nursing shortage continues to plague hospitals nationwide and here in Lubbock. With that in mind, one of America's most famous nurses visited the Hub Friday. Loretta Swit, otherwise known as Nurse Margaret "Hot Lips" Houlihan of M*A*S*H, helped present a $125-thousand check to the Nursing Education Fund. American State Bank donated the money. Swit said playing a nurse on TV helped her understand the seriousness of the nursing shortage.
"I didn't know. I wasn't as acutely aware of it as I have become with the information I have received. So, I figured if I don't know, a lot of people don't know and if they do know they're gonna pitch in and help. It's important to us all," said Swit.
The money will help Texas Tech, South Plains College, Lubbock Christian University and Covenant Schools of Nursing.
