Viewer Response to Consider This on Put CHRIST back in Christmas

What a blessing to read what so many of us in Lubbock have thought and spoken to each other! Christ is the reason we celebrate Christmas. I agree, let's shop and support local business establishments and television stations (like KCBD) that do not squelch our Christmas greeting representing Christ. Thank you so much for putting into words the heart-felt opinions of many, many citizens of Lubbock. And Merry Christmas to you, as well.

I would like to address a mistake that was made on your part in your "Consider This" segment concerning putting Christ back in Christmas.

"The only reason we have the "holidays" is because there was a Christmas first." - Dan Jackson, KCBD.

For the record, Chanukkah was actually instituted by Judah Maccabee and his brothers to celebrate the successful Jewish revolt against the Seleucid monarchy, and the liberation and re-dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem in 165 BC.  This is many years prior to the birth of Christ.

I sincerely hope that the lack of recognition by the clerks and merchants that your purchases are intended for this sacred day do not deprive you or your family of the warmth of spirit for that which, as stated in your editorial, is the reason for the season.

Merry Christmas, Dan.

Mr. Jackson, thank you for your commentary about keeping Christ in Christmas!  It is so refreshing and uplifting to hear someone in the TV media speak about the true meaning of Christmas without worrying about being "politically correct".

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

I totally support Dan Jackson & his belief in celebrating this holiday as merry christmas. The majority of us feel the same!

I loved this!  I find I agree with most things you say.  I am so tired of a few people trying to ruin or change things for others.  I will always be CHRISTmas in our home!  I will gladly spend my money in a place that tells me Merry Christmas as opposed to Happy Holidays!

Viewer 8

Thank you Dan for putting a voice to what the rest of us are thinking!  CHRISTmas is just that.... a time to celebrate CHRIST!!!   I appreciate your boldness & applaud your courage in standing up for what you believe.

Viewer 9

People choose not to say Merry Christmas not because it has a reference to Christ in the name but because there are three other holidays that fall within the same week or two that we don't acknowledge.  We don't go around telling everyone Happy Kwanza or Happy Hanukah or even Happy Yule.  So, considering you do not know what everyone's religion is, it just seems more polite to say Happy Holidays so that we may encompass everyone's religion.

Thank you so much for your "Consider This" message this morning!!

I totally agree with your commentary.  However, I was taking a look yesterday at my grandson's Christmas photo with Santa and this jumped out at me.  On the left side it said Happy Holidays, but as I looked at the word Holidays, what stood out was Holy Days.  You don't notice it as much as Christmas, but it is there.   No matter how much groups try to remove the true meaning of the season, it is still there.

Wishing the staff at KCBD a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

I agree 100%. We have Christmas because of Christ being born our Savior. This is the reason for the season. You can't omit Christ because then Christmas will have no meaning. Its like taking chocolate out of the chocolate cake, then it wouldn't be a chocolate cake anymore or sugar out of candy. These two examples are very small examples compared to taking Christ out of Christmas which has Great meaning. Leave it alone, Christmas is all about Christ being born.

Thank you for standing up for Christmas!! Amen.

Just a word of thanks for your very timely and appropriate message about Christmas.  I, for one, an tired of the political correctness also.  Really there is nothing correct about calling Christmas by any other name, which you so rightly pointed out.

Thanks again and here's wishing you and your family a very Merry Christmas.

Merry Christmas to KCBD!!  You're our favorite local news!

I think Dan Jackson's message on keeping the real meaning in Christmas was great!

ConsiderThis... Put CHRIST back in Christmas

Christmas brings a special spirit that can hardly be duplicated any other time of the year. And sadly, it's the uniqueness of Christmas that also makes a few folks uncomfortable
