CDC still advises getting the H1N1 vaccine

By Kristin Beerman | email

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – Although the number of cases continues to decline, health officials say getting vaccinated now can help prevent a third wave of the flu in the spring and it should be of great comfort to parents that the CDC says the vaccine continues to appear just as safe as the seasonal flu shot.

"At this point, we think probably 60 million people have received the H1N1 vaccine. We've intensified our safety monitoring and we are not seeing any worrisome signs. The information we have on the H1N1 vaccine to date is very reassuring from the safety front," said Dr. Anne Schuchat, with the CDC.

So far the CDC says all of the flu cases have been H1N1, and even now, health departments are still not reporting any seasonal flu strains yet.
