LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The family of murder victim Bobby "Daesh" Jones came to the NewsChannel 11 studios Tuesday, in part, to say that he was not involved in any gangs or other forms of trouble.
They say he was simply in the wrong place when shots were fired early Sunday morning at the Fiesta Ballroom, 1902, East 4th Street. Meanwhile police continue searching for Corey J. Conner who is charged with murder.
Witnesses told police that Conner grabbed a gun and fired shots into the crowd. Jones was hit twice, and later died at University Medical Center
"A group started fighting. The bullets were not intended for him. But they did hit him," says Jones' sister, Ka'tosheya Allen.
"I was very angry," Allen continues. "I wanted somebody to feel the hurt that I'm feeling. But I had to think of it this way; that this is all in God's plan." She says the goal is not revenge, but healing.
"So, now I don't even blame the guy. And I don't wish anything bad on him anymore. Ya know, I'm just so stuck on making sure that my brother's legacy will be a positive one."
A fund has been set up at any branch of American State Bank. The account is called the "Damion Draper fund for Bobby Jones"
Corey Conner stands about 5'10" and weighs around 205 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
If you have any information on the whereabouts of Conner, you are asked to call Crime Line at 741-1000. Remember, you can remain anonymous.
