Gas prices and weather factor into local travel plans

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - On one of the busiest holiday travel days of the year, Lubbockites are getting ready to hit the road to visit family this holiday season.

The weather may be a factor in your plans, but many travelers are not letting the possible winter weather interrupt their plans for the holidays.

Gas prices are down an average of $.03 per gallon across Texas and people are gassing up to get on the road, but if you're traveling north early Thursday, expect winter weather: heavy snow, low visibility in blowing snow, and slick roads, across Northeastern New Mexico, Southern Colorado, the Northwest Texas Panhandle, the Oklahoma Panhandle, and Western Kansas.

Because of the winter weather in other areas, those booking those last minute flights may experience some delays at the airport.

"If you're flying to one of those destinations that is having bad weather I can assure you you're probably going to have to wait," says James Loomis, the Director of Aviation at the Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport.

To check flight arrivals and delays, you can go to kcbdtogo.com on your internet ready cell phone, also on this site, you can check the weather updates on where you are and where you are going.

NewsChannel 11 is continuing to watch the weather and will have updates for you on kcbd.com, kcbdtogo.com, and also on www.facebook.com/kcbdNewsChannel11.
