Winter weather causes multiple accidents and closures

LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The snow created a big mess for drivers.  Thursday afternoon crews were trying to clear the roads, but the wind just pushed the snow back across. It was packed down, and hard to see the dividing lines.

NewsChannel 11 Storm Chaser David Drummond caught video overnight, when the rain just started to turn to snow. The slick conditions caused multiple wrecks, and the snow just came down harder.

By Monday morning, roads were packed, and cars were going off the roads.  Lubbock Police closed the fly-over at South Loop 289 and Interstate 27 do to the dangerous conditions.

Folks we spoke with say you have to watch out.  "You just have to slow down and watch for everybody else.  We stopped to help a lot of people, because they were stranded," Gloria Lee said.

"Make sure that you cover yourself up real good and make sure you've got gas, and pay attention," James Prieto said.  Authorities say if you don't have to travel, don't.
