LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) – If you're taking vitamin c to help ward off illnesses, you'll like this health headline. Researchers have found an unexpected new benefit. It appears that vitamin c may also help repair damaged cells in the body.
The study from China reveals that vitamin c helps generate embryonic stem cells from adult cells. Researchers were surprised to find vitamin c even sped up the cell changes in mice and in humans. Scientists are hopeful this could someday help millions suffering from degenerative diseases.
This study is from the South China Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine at the Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health, Chinese Academy of Sciences. It's published in the journal Stem Cell.
