LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - The sun will power more of Lubbock's electric supply starting in 2011.

SunEdison of Santa Fe New Mexico announced the deal a few days ago.  SunEdison will create 50 megawatts of solar power as part of a 20-year deal with Xcel.  The photovoltaic facilities will be located in Eastern New Mexico and the power will also be used in West Texas.

Lubbock Power & Light buys wholesale power from Xcel.
