LUBBOCK, TX (KCBD) - For the third consecutive season and fifth time in the last six years, Texas Tech Football will finish the season ranked amongst the nation's best as the Red Raiders reentered the polls after winning the last three games of the season, including a 41-31 win over Michigan State in the Valero Alamo Bowl.
The Red Raiders were awarded a No. 21 final ranking by the Associated Press and a No. 23 rating by the USA Today Coaches' poll. Tech had a brief stint in the polls earlier this season after a 31-10 win at No. 15/17 Nebraska (Oct. 17) as the Red Raiders climbed to No. 21 in the AP and No. 24 in the coaches poll. A 52-30 setback at home to Texas A&M on Oct. 24 dropped the Red Raiders from the rankings.
Texas Tech was one of just three Big 12 teams ranked in the final AP poll (No. 2 Texas, No. 14 Nebraska and No. 21 Texas Tech) and one of four in the final coaches poll (No. 2 Texas, No. 14 Nebraska, No. 24 Texas Tech and No. 24 Oklahoma State).
